Make Your Wedding Sparkle!

MY STORY

YOUR TURN

     Using silk flowers and a vase/candle holder from the dollar store, and some Buckle Boutique products, see how easy it is to bling up your wedding or other celebration.

     Using a rhinestone buckle, thread onto ribbon.  I wanted to make sure my buckles were evenly placed so after you thread on the buckle, measure around the vase and adhere with glue.

    I liked to have a pattern but you can place however you like.  After the buckles were in place, I added some of the beautiful Buckle Boutique trim below the bottom ribbon and above the top ribbon. For the trim, I used metal/glass/bead glue which seemed to hold them in place better.

   I cut the rhinestone sheet into two different widths to add some interest and applied accordingly.

   You can easily adapt this process for coordinating candle holders.  Not only do they complement your centerpiece, you can also use these as wedding favors.

    A new product from The Buckle Boutique are individual adhesive rhinestones.  For a reasonable cost, these rhinestones glitter just like the real thing and are easy to apply to any surface.  To increase the shine on the silk flowers, I added some rhinestones to the petals.  You can apply as little or as much as you want.  It is a simple way to add some more bling.  HINT:  I found it easier to apply the stickers once your flowers are in place in the vase so you can have a better view of the placement.

    When using silk flowers, I like to use a glittering tulle ribbon inside the vase.  Not only does it easily support the flower stems, it adds a subtle touch of bling for any parts of the vase that you can see thru.

    And you are done and although the Bride will be the star of the show, your tables will also have pretty bling.  If using at an outdoor event, I loved how the sun glinted off the trims and rhinestones.

Getting Scrappy With The Buckle Boutique

MY STORY

     As a design team member for The Buckle Boutique, I am so fortunate that I get to play and create with such great product.  The rhinestone sticker sheets are my favorite!   They come in large sheets, are easy to cut and apply, are affordable and you can make so many projects from just one sheet!

YOUR TURN

    By using scraps from previous projects, here are some quick and easy ideas on how to get the most out of your sticker sheets.

JEWELRY:

    I have not mastered making jewelry from scratch (another item on my crafting bucket list by the way) so I am always happy when I find jewelry blanks on the craft store.  I found this cool silver bracelet that had a nice flat surface and I thought it would be the perfect type of bracelet to use up some bling.

    Cut out very small pieces from your scrap pile.  One of the benefits of the rhinestone sticker sheets is that no matter how small you get the pieces, they are still easy to cut and apply and since the "stones" are gel based, you can easily cut through them and they do not break.

   Once you apply the rhinestones, turn the bracelet over and trim the edges.  Add a single rhinestone piece and that's it.  It is amazing how this catches the sunlight and shines!

DIE CUTTING MACHINE:

    If you use any of the die cutting machines, you are left with what I would call "negative space" pieces.  You may have used the cut out portion for a project, but you are then left with with another opportunity to use the piece.

• Use numbers for birthday cards, table settings
  
• Use letters for birthday cards or a custom hand made card for a friend.  I then added some scrabble tiles.  I love mixing rustic with bling.
  
  
  
  
• Use crosses for unique wedding cards or other religious celebrations.  Just use complementary paper and you have a beautiful card
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  

SCRAPBOOKING:

   I loved the way the cheetah rhinestone sheet looked against cheetah paper.  My friend's daughter was graduating from fashion school so I was helping her compile a scrapbook to help commemorate her achievements.  I then added some small strips of gold rhinestones and I think this is a fun chic way to use up your supplies!

Upcycle a store bought card for a 3D birthday

     It's challenge time again at Decorate To Celebrate.  Hop over to their blog for a host of creative
ideas for whatever your next celebration is:  DECORATE TO CELEBRATE.

    For today's challenge, I will show you how to take an inexpensive greeting card and make it a custom, 3D card.

YOUR TURN

     I have always been a big fan of the dollar store.  On a recent visit, they had some pretty cards for a low price.  So, just with some scissors, glue, washi tape and pipe cleaners, you can make this card your own.

      Lay out your pipe cleaners and cut accordingly so you have the height you want on the card. Wire cutters worked best.   Wrap the cleaners in washi tape, leaving a bit of the top exposed for the candle "wick".

     Cut out the cake, of whatever image you are using.  Save the rest of the card.  Lay out on a piece of card stock and lightly pencil in around the top for your placement of the "candles".

    Glue onto your card stock and let dry.

     Once dry, glue on your birthday case image.  Gluing on top of the washi tape candles, gives a nice 3D look to your card.

     Cut out with decorative scissors and then adhere to another piece of paper and adhere to your blank card.

     I then cut out part of the inside wording and used on the front of the card as well as a decorative flower from the inside of the card.  And that's it.  Such a fun and simple way to create handmade with a store bought item.

Vintage Fashion Illustrations with a bit of bling

MY STORY

    I have always loved vintage fashion and vintage fashion illustrations.  One of my favorite illustrators is Hilda Glasgow.  As a worker in the fashion industry for the last 20+ years, I admire her style and her story.  Her daughter has continued her legacy through The White Cabinet - here is a little bio from their page which can be found here THE WHITE CABINET WEBSITE:

From the 1940's to the 1960's Hilda Glasgow was one of the top fashion illustrators in the industry. She was also my mother. As a woman ahead of her time, born in 1913, graduating from Pratt Institute in NYC in 1933, she illustrated the latest mid 20th century fashions for magazines such as Vogue and a variety of high end department stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue and Best & Co. 

Her original pen and ink drawings had been hidden away for over 50 years in a white cabinet in her Manhattan apartment, now in my home. I decided it was time for the world to enjoy them again.  Here they are in all their glory, as limited edition reproductions, and, partnering with The Pencil Factory, notecards, coloring books and more.  You can even have Hilda's ladies gracing your home as wallpaper by Flavor Paper!

Please take a peek and enjoy. If you are a fan of "Funny Face", "Breakfast at Tiffany's", and that little black dress,  then I think you'll find these vintage illustrations  simply divine just like I do!

   The website features great product featuring her illustrations -- from gift wrap paper to compact mirrors, and my new obsession, "Hilda's Sketchpad" -- a coloring book featuring vintage illustrations 1940 - 1970.  This book is high quality and beautifully made.

   I love coloring so this project was a perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon in the studio.  And my utilizing some of the product from THE BUCKLE BOUTIQUE, I was able to add some dimension and texture to these already beautiful illustrations.  Hope you enjoy and check out both The White Cabinet and The Buckle Boutique for great inspirational ideas.

YOUR TURN

   Before I started coloring, I made a few copies of the illustrations to practice colors, etc., on before I was confident to use the original pages.

   No rules about coloring -- just relax and enjoy it.  Since I was a kid, I found coloring and coloring books an almost meditative experience and that has not changed all these years later.

   Once I finished the coloring, I chose some rhinestone adhesive stickers to pump up the picture.  For the first example, I wanted to focus on the handbag and other accessories.  From one of your copies cut out pieces of the bag and use as a template for cutting out the rhinestone.  One of the great features of the Buckle Boutique product is that, no matter how small a piece you need, it is easy to peel away from the backing.

   On the second illustration, I thought the original illustration lent itself to some bling on the dress itself in addition to the accessories.  Same process as the first illustration.

   I found these great frames at Michaels and I thought they were the perfect complement to the era of the illustrations.  I still have 14 drawings left in my coloring book -- I can hardly wait to play with these as well.
