Keys To My Heart Card with The Buckle Boutique

MY STORY

It is challenge time at Decorate To Celebrate!  Check out their website for great projects to celebrate your next occasion:   DTC blog.  While I was working on some cards to celebrate a friend's wedding anniversary, old school Madonna was playing on my IPOD.  "Open Your Heart" was playing and the line:  "I hold the lock and you hold the key" inspired me.  I had some old keys in my stash and with some rhinestone sticker sheets from The Buckle Boutique I had my idea!

YOUR TURN

The rhinestone sticker sheets are easy to use and apply.  And you can use some leftover scraps from a previous project.  Simply place your key (or any other object you are using) onto the back of the sticker sheet and cut out.  I don't have any die cut machines, but I love my non stick scissors from Westcott.  You will need to use just the points of the scissors for the little spots to try and cut it out as closely as you can.

For the middle of the key, I took a T pin and cut holes so I could simply bend back or remove the sticker sheets from this small area.

To build your card choose papers that complement each other.  My handwriting is not the best so I love to use rub on transfers like we had as kids.

I like the play of the "golden" keys against silver and black.  Cover your blank card stock with your background paper.

Using another paper, glue your keys against them and place on the card.  For this example, I liked the off center look but place wherever you like.

Create your wording with the rub on transfers.  Then cut out and place on your card.

Add some more embellishments with your sticker sheets and that's it.  You have a fun custom card that would be great for an anniversary, wedding, engagement, etc.

Happy Crafting!

Remember The Beach

MY STORY

Summer may officially be over based on the calendar, but this past summer I spent a week at a beach house with my high school best friends.  I wanted to commemorate our fun time and since it was also challenge time at Decorate To Celebrate I was able to combine both projects.  And adding some bling from The Buckle Boutique replicated that special sparkle when the sun hits the ocean.

This 3d version would be tough to mail so once completed I took some pics and can frame or use as our card front to send to my beachy girlfriends.

YOUR TURN

I found this clay board in my local arts and crafts retailer and I thought it was perfect for my idea as it was heavy enough to hold the glass I was planning on using.

Sketch some light "wave" shapes on to the board.

I found these exotic glass pieces in the gardening store -- I'm sure most people use them in fish tanks, but of course I am using them for a craft!!

Separate some of the colors before you start -- I wanted an ombre look of darker stones on the bottom leading up to the top.  Using just plain white glue, start laying out your stones.  This takes a lot of glue because you want the glue to pool around the glass to hold them.  Work a section at a time and let dry.

Once the stones are dry, I used one of my favorite rubber stamps -- this stamp gives the illusion of clouds.  Choose a dark and light ink and stamp the "sky" on to your piece.

My handwriting is not the best so I always use rub on transfers or stickers for wording.  I found the perfect saying in a sticker and added to complementary paper.  Apply as you would like to your piece.

To create that sparkle of the sun, add some strips of the rhinestone sticker sheets from The Buckle Boutique.  Place as desired to add shine and texture.

And now you have a cute memento of your special summer to send to your friends.  I also plan on gazing at this piece when the Northeast winter starts!

   Happy Crafting!
