You Are So Shady

MY STORY

I am just loving the ombre trend.  Ombre is a french term meaning "shaded".  It is a design treatment utilizing colors graduating from light to dark and vice versa.  This trend is appearing in everything from winter tights to nail effects to amazing hair treatments.   If only I had long hair.......but you can incorporate this trend very simply.

YOUR TURN
A simple way to incorporate ombre onto hair....check out hair chalk.  Great sets available at www.urbanoutfitters.com

There are great tutorials on YouTube to get a cool ombre manicure at home.  Check this out.

LOVE Letters

    MY STORY

When my husband and I began dating, I will still in college and he lived overseas.  I remember how exciting it was to check the mailbox each day and find these beautifully hand-addressed airmail envelopes with the onion skin paper inside.  We have been married 33 years and counting and I treasure these letters as much as I did back then.

    YOUR TURN

Take a minute today to send a letter to someone special....your loved one, a child off in college, your Grandma.  Not a card, not a tweet, not a text.....but old fashioned snail mail.  I guarantee it will put a smile on someone's face and yours as well.

A Doodle A Day

MY STORY
Keeps the doctor away?  Maybe not, but it is a wonderful way to let your mind wander for a few minutes.  I remember my denim high school binders were always covered in doodles (and my boyfriend's name at that given point in time).

YOUR TURN
Grab three markers and any piece of paper - used envelope, old newspapers.  Let your hand and mind relax and in just a few minutes you will have a pretty little piece of art.   Great to do while you are at your child's soccer game or on a conference call.  I have gathered up some of these doodles, cut them into strips or squares and have incorporated them into my artwork.

A great book on the subject is "Creative Doodling and Beyond" by Stephanie Corfee (www.stephaniecorfee.com). Includes hints, inspiration and blank pages to play.

I Love Rock 'n Roll

"So put another dime in the jukebox, baby." Joan Jett and The Blackhearts

I love when I get to combine crafting with my other love, Rock 'n Roll.  Thank you to my friend, Peter Monroy, who graciously wears my custom apparel work as he performs with his band, KID Hollywood.   When you next get to Vegas, you need to check him out.  Amazing talent and a great person.

Check him and his band out on YouTube or like him on Facebook or at www.monroy1.com

Today's Quote 10.24.13

"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long.  We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious....and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. " Walt Disney

Art Of The Brick

My son is now a 19 year old Marine but I'm still finding random Lego pieces in the nooks and crannies of his room.  If you want to see some amazing artwork made entirely of Legos, check out "The Art of The Brick" @ The Discovery Theater in NYC.  Now get going and make something yourself out of those pieces I know you have!

Treasures In The Yard

There is just something about Fall....the changing colors, the crispness of the air.  The acorns dropping from the trees are hitting my house like little bombs.  While getting my garden ready for its winter nap, I found perfectly formed acorns.  They look like beads.  Gather up some acorns in your yard (but make sure you leave some for the squirrels!)  Add them to cinnamon sticks for a fall centerpiece, incorporate them into your children's artwork (they make great eyes) or just keep them nearby and remember the glorious Fall when the winter hits.
